Lisa Randall Biography

Lisa Randall studies theoretical particle physics and cosmology at Harvard University, where she is Frank J. Baird, Jr., Professor of Science. Her work has made her among the most cited and influential theoretical physicists today, and has been featured in Discover, the Economist, Newsweek, Scientific American, and many top-ranked scientific journals. She has been one of Time magazine’s “100 Most Influential People” and Rolling Stone’s “RS100: Agents of Change,” and her first book, Warped Passages: Unraveling the Mysteries of the Universe’s Hidden Dimensions, was named a New York Times Notable Book in 2005. She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. When not solving the problems of the universe, Randall can be found rock climbing, skiing, or contributing to art-science connections. Her libretto for Hypermusic Prologue premiered at the Pompidou Center in Paris in 2009.

Dr. Randall's first published book, Warped Passages, was quite a stimulating study, written with clarity and a strong purpose of successfully bringing new ideas and concepts to it's readers. The reviews of her new volume, 'Knocking On Heaven's Door', have been confirming the success of her attempt to again present up-to-date science concepts and practices with clarity and skill. Having waited almost all year, I am ready to try my hand at understanding her presentations. Because of the broad scope, for the first time I will use the hard-copy and kindle editions and the audio cds when the eyes can't be used. It should be a very interesting read, in several ways.

Lisa, Dr. Randall, has changed my life. As an atheist, and a Buddhist monk practicing in a Tibetan lineage, I have found great strength from the readings and writings of Dr. Randall. SHE is pure energy, Pure Truth. Yes, I am enthralled with her! I can't remember what it was that I first read but I think it had something to do with the National Academy of Arts and Sciences. The message lives on, in me. Some would want to meet Madonna, others Sting, for me, its Lisa Randall! We are so lucky to have her, and hopefully she will live on as a great role model for all young women, and men alike!

I seem to have just stumbled onto Dr Randall and haven't yet had the chance to read her. Looking forward to that. But while here, I would like to point out a criminally overlooked book called "Quantum Philosophy" by Roland Omnès (trans. by Arturo Sangalli). True, the title seems a bit pretentious, but the book is not that at all. What Professor Omnès has set out to do is re-create common sense from a quantum foundation. He succeeds brilliantly. Not exactly the easiest of reads, but still comprehensible to anyone who will apply the effort necessary. If you are willfully stupid, don't bother. My favorite thing in the book is how he gets around the Schrodinger's Cat problem. Like many seemingly paradoxes, it simply takes a different position to make it go away :)

Dr Randall. I have enjoyed reading your new book and listening to the taped version. Also.I took quite a long time, to understand as best I can the messages you have delivered to us. Now perhaps I have made progress sufficient to converse with you. So, I am asking to be invited for a luncheon meeting with you, if it is possible. Would be appreciated very much and maybe create a few laughs in the bargain.
